The spring of 2006 we harvest 4442 snows geese. We had 4 zeros and 3 fields that were at the century mark, one 100-bird and two 99-bird days. The zeros were a result of extremely cold weather that made for some pretty tough hunting for a few days. Three of the four zero’s took place the same day. Ultimately the weather normalized and hunting picked up nicely. The band count for 2006 was 18 leg bands, 8 neck collars, one $20 reward band, and 1 tarsus band.
Here is a South Dakota snow goose hunt where we hunted a pasture.

Here is a February snow goose hunt that I often tell people about. On this particular day we didn’t shoot a snow goose all morning. My guide Tryg called about 11:30am telling me his group was heading into town for lunch and his snow goose hunter’s count was in the upper teen for the morning hunt. When I told him we didn’t fire a shot he was surprised. At 3pm he called again telling me that they had just got back into their blinds. In the time they were at lunch we had shot 38 snow geese and the yellow neck collar. We ended the day with 45 snow geese. Had my group done what his did they would have only shot 7 birds that day. Tryg’s group ended the day with 36 birds. If you are not in the field you will not kill birds. This is the only thing I guarantee on our snow goose hunts.
Here is the first time anybody had hunted snow geese with Deadly Decoys™. It was a warmer winter and there were several thousand snows in Mound City already on the opening day of the conservation order January 30, 2006. We shot 35 snow geese that day and the decoy proved then as they have every day in the field since that they are very effective.
These snow goose hunters are members of the Rathjen party. Not only did they get 75 snow geese but a bonus Blue Neck Collared Ross.
When his hunters decided to take a lunch break snow goose guide Jake Groth eat in the field and was rewarded with this leg band on a blue goose.
Jagger party snow goose hunt Feb 24, 2006. They tried hard but were one shy of cracking the 100 bird mark… 99 is still pretty good!
