The better hunting of yesterday was short-lived, as a snow goose hunting guide, I understand that warmer weather provides better conditions for the hunters and often better decoying birds. Most hunters scheduled for this week have opted to move their guided snow goose hunts to next week, where we still have availability, and the current forecast promises warmer temperatures.

Today, we experienced an incredible duck and speck show. The sight of them filling the sky was truly something to behold. Ducks and specks were everywhere, creating a spectacle that reminded us why we love this sport. Unfortunately, the snow geese didn’t seem to want to cooperate. Despite our best efforts, they stayed hung up outside of gun range, making for a tough day in the field.

The high field managed to shoot 11, which is on the low side of average. Meanwhile, our low field only got 1. Some days, no matter how well you prepare, they don’t decoy like you want them to. It’s part of the challenge that keeps us returning as a snow goose hunting guide year after year.

Looking ahead, tomorrow’s forecast calls for 4–6 inches of snow. This could bring a noticeable shift in conditions, and we’re curious to see how it will affect the hunting. While snow sometimes gives us an advantage during the storm, it more often slows things down considerably once it stops. As an experienced snow goose hunting guide, we’ll adjust our approach and make the most of whatever conditions come our way.
