On the bright side, we didn’t get as much snow as expected. On the downside, it’s really cold. Two groups hunted for a couple of hours each today—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They managed to shoot 3 and 1, respectively. Tomorrow, we have one group heading out, and we’ll see how the conditions play out. A reverse snow goose migration due to the cold is going on, but not in mass. Birds are migrating but only small flocks moving from the north and heading south. During my tour today, I noticed that where you see birds, there’s a good number of them hunkered down. It’s clear they’re conserving energy in this cold weather, waiting for better conditions before they migrate.

For those joining us this weekend, here’s what to expect: Friday is going to be cold, so dress warmly and prepare for brisk conditions. Saturday looks more promising, with temperatures climbing to 40 degrees. On Sunday, we should see the best hunting, with highs around 50 degrees and a south wind that should make the snow geese start moving north again. Snow goose migration will pick up as the weather improves. If you’re interested in hunting a half day on Friday and a full day on Sunday, we’re happy to accommodate those plans.
