Feb 14 – Solid Average Day

The weather was odd today, and the forecast missed the mark. It was supposed to rain all day, but it didn’t start until late afternoon. The wind was forecasted to be a steady SE at 10–15 mph, but it never got close. Instead, it stayed light and variable out of the NE, E, and eventually the North.

Our best field shot 34. (The picture shows 28 — a few guys left early, took the photo, and added a couple more afterward.) My field was the low field today. We only shot 3, and honestly we saw far more specks than snows. I’ve been on a roll lately, and sooner or later I knew it would cool off. Average was 16.3 birds.

It’s raining pretty hard right now at 8 p.m., and the forecast is calling for 1–2 inches. I expect the fields to be wet for a few days, so plan accordingly for those hunting Mon-Thu this coming week. Tomorrow brings a north wind at 15–25 mph, and we’ll see what that does for us.
