Today was our first truly slow day of the year. Our high field scratched out 26, but the rest ranged from 5 down to zero. I always say a season has peaks and valleys, and up to now we’ve been living in the peaks. The last three days proved that—some groups did really well, others not so much. That’s snow goose hunting. Some days you is the show, and some days you isn’t.
It was cold with a heavy north wind, and it felt every bit of it. Most groups packed up early—last day, cold weather, and not much of a morning flight will do that.
This afternoon we rejiggered the A‑Frame spread. I’ll be hunting it tomorrow, so we’ll see if the changes pay off. We’ve run laydown blinds for so many years that we know exactly what works and what doesn’t. With the A‑Frames, I’m still trying to land on a setup I really like. While we were working on it, there were way more birds flying tonight than anything we saw this morning, so maybe that’s a good sign.
