Feb 24 – First Really Slow Day of The Year

Today was our first really slow day this year. Our best field was 31, but the rest were in single digits. It has been a good season in Arkansas, but the weather has been weird. Yesterday it was close to, if not 70 degrees. Today was cold with a north wind. Every day is a little different.

Congrats to this fine young man. He shot his first snow goose, with a broken arm. He is 15, the same age as when I shot my first goose.

I’m beginning to pack up some of the spare equipment getting ready for our move on Monday. We will pull all the spreads Sunday afternoon and start setting decoys on Tuesday in Iowa. It sounds like there is a large number up there. I would rather some of the geese start migrating. A lot of staged stale birds make for a lot of scenery, but many times you watch birds flying around, not decoying.
