Today, hunting went slightly better than yesterday. The high field managed to shoot 22 geese, while the low field, which was mine, only managed to shoot 4. We saw more birds today, but they didn’t show much interest in coming in, and overall, there were only slightly more birds than yesterday. There’s just not much flying around, and unless you’re near a feed, there’s not much to see. However, the weather is expected to change that.

The picture shows a single Ross’s goose we shot yesterday. It circled our spread for 45 minutes, leaving and coming back four times before finally making the fatal mistake of entering gun range. I’ve never quite understood why they do that, but it’s a phenomenon I’ve witnessed throughout my 25-year career as a snow goose guide.

Tomorrow is the last day for our four-day hunters, and on Friday, we have several single-day hunts scheduled before the youth duck hunt weekend. We plan to move some of the spreads to get them out of the muddy conditions we’re experiencing this year. A couple of the fields are really wet, and we’ll try to minimize that for the weekend.
