The 2010 spring snow goose season has come to an end. Several of the snow goose guides made a trip up to South Dakota for a 3 day snow goose hunt. We ended up shooting 10 on an afternoon hunt. The next two days we shot 22 and 51 birds. We felt 51 was a good way end a frustrating year on.
The 2010 season was the lowest harvest we have had in many years. The majority of this is due to the fact I wanted to shorten the season so I was not away from our three young children for as long as previous years. With the bad weather and postponements we only ended up running hunts for 21 days. I have not hunted so few days in many years as well. Last year we hunted 48 days. Even though fewer days in the field was minor part of our lower snow goose harvest weather played a huge role this year. The poor weather give us our lowest average per field we have ever had. The few days we had good weather we had good hunting but most of the 21 days were less than ideal hunting conditions.
Those looking to book 2011 hunts should consider dates ASAP. There are a lot of groups that were postponed that will be calling to book dates. A lot of groups book a 2011 hunt before heading home. The first weekend in March is full already.
Thanks for the business in 2010. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you for a 2011 snow goose hunt.
