We made the trek south arriving in AR late yesterday. All the way down the ground was white. Remember everybody saying winter was over? I got a lot of those calls, comments, and emails. My reply was “I’ve never seen winter over in January and I have never seen snow last to the 4th of July.” We have seen snow down here a number of times but this is the first time we have arrived with snow on the ground. There isn’t much but there is some. Most years we leave Iowa with below zero and set spreads in shorts. This weather surely pushed the birds that were north down below us. THIS IS GOOD!

The fields look to be wet so those coming in the first week should prepare for that. I have found non-insulated breathable wader to work nicely. I bought mine larger enough so that I can wear my bibs under them it is cold. It’s wet but not like late last year wet. 

Today we meet up with the farmers laying the groundwork for setting spreads the rest of the week. Jim, Curt, and the new guys will be setting decoy and readying gear. I have to return home for one more load plus deal with some odds and ends that need to be tied up while I’m on the road. I will be heading back down later in the week.
