What a beautiful day! It was nearly 70 degrees. The last three days have been lower wind early in the day. Many of the fields would have big spins started only to fizzle out at 120 yards up. It's still pretty cool to see. Our best field today was 20. He had high migrators cutting a lot of air to get to him. There is a pretty fair number of geese in the area but a couple of the fields didn't see too many. They just were not on the flight path today. That will change. ... See MoreSee Less

I made this video talking about March 2 but yesterday March 3, Gerald shot 10 snows in the morning and 17 on the evening flight. It is another example of what I'm talking about in this video. On the other side of the coin, one of my other fields shot 11 by 8:30 am and ended the day with 12. You never know how the day will end until it's over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUhvs12qMRI ... See MoreSee Less

Since we started in Iowa the hunting has improved slightly each day. March 3 was one of the better ones, not because we killed the most birds. Everybody saw plenty of birds. If we had wind we would have crushed them early. Most of the guides said they had a number of huge spins that came down to 100 yards and left. Typical of a no wind day. The weather has been amazing compared to what we left in Arkansas. ... See MoreSee Less

Jim, Curt, Brock, and I made our way from Arkansas up to Iowa. Man, what a difference in bird numbers. Temps hit 62 today. All of the fields were between 9 and 15 but one. They shot a zero. I just happened to be taking Jim and Curt to show the new decoy spreads. It was 5:15, everybody was at the truck or had left. I have never understood why hunters go right before the evening flight. If you want to take a break, the best time for that is noon-3 pm. Migrators show up often enough, but it is likely the slowest part of the day. Why sit through the most uneventful part of the day then leave just before the birds are going out to feed. It is one of the better times. I explained this to the hunters remaining as we watched several flocks look at the spread without the callers running. To kill more snow geese. Stay in your blinds with the doors shut. Take break midday if you want one. As I type, several flocks are migrating over the motel. The push is on this week. There should be new birds tomorrow! ... See MoreSee Less

In Arkansas, we picked up the last three spreads. There have to be more birds here than any time all season. At one of the fields, there were birds rolling out of the south power pole high. I would have like to have been hunting that field rather than pulling it. In Iowa, we started our first group of hunters. Some of the fields saw plenty of birds. Others didn't. Hunting was slow with the high field shooting 6 and the low field was a 0. The guides said there are a lot of specks in the flocks. ... See MoreSee Less
