Snow Goose Hunting Reports

Feb 16 – Heavy Lightning

There was a lot of lightning this morning. Only one group hunted, and they were able to get into the field at about 9 am. Right away, as they were setting up, three big mobs centered them up, but we were not ready. Once we were ready, they shot seven geese right away. Then not … [Read More]

Feb 15 – It Got Crazy For A While

When Drew call me at the end of the hunt today. I asked him how they did, and he said “it got crazy for a while.” Our best field was 106. That picture was blurry, so I decided to use our low-field picture of 40 snow geese. It was a good day There is supposed … [Read More]

Feb 14 – Bit of Rain Today

Since I didn’t have hunters today, I ran home to see the wife and kids. I also needed to drop off Gauge to hopefully have him mend up for when we move to Iowa. I’m also picking up the last of the hoodies that hunters have wanted to buy. All we have is XXL 3 … [Read More]

Feb 12-13 Snow Goose Hunting Report

The half-day hunts on Sunday were mostly in the teens. This week we are light without full fields. Three of us guides hunted an open field shooting 78. The best group of guided guys shot 46 (pictured below), and the low field shot 15. There were a lot of geese heading north today. Tomorrow it … [Read More]

Feb 11 – Average Day

An average day in the field. A strong wind out of the north has put the breaks on the number of flocks headed toward Missouri. We saw a handful of flocks migrating north, but nothing like we have seen with the weekday hunters this past week. Our best field was 42, and our low field … [Read More]

Feb 10 – Solid Snow Goose Hunting

The afternoon was better than the morning in my field pictured. By late morning we had only six snows but ended the day with 38. All of the other fields but one was in the 30″s too. Low field shot 13 snow geese. The wind switched to the north. All but the field that shot … [Read More]

Feb 9 – Half Day

Thursday and Sunday are our half-day hunts. The best field shot is 36. The picture is in my field. We shot 32 – 29 in pic & 4 in blind bags for mounting. It was amazing how fast it dried today. It will still be wet for a few days but not terrible overall. I … [Read More]

Feb 8 – Dumped On

It poured rain today. A couple of groups didn’t hunt. Those that did all pulled the plug by 10:30. High field shot 15 with the low field shot 1, but they only hunted until about 9. As I’m typing this, it is once again raining. I’m hoping there aren’t any flooded roads in the morning. … [Read More]

Feb 7 – Cloudy and No Wind

It was another solid day. Our best field shot 60 geese, and our lowest field shot 26. I’ll take that any time, any year. The birds were a little more finicky. The weather was cloudy, and almost no wind most of the day. Cloudy days are usually not as good as sunny ones. Tomorrow’s forecast … [Read More]

Feb 6 – Another Big Day

It was no wind, with fog starting in the morning but not super thick all the time. In the field I was in, you could see the snow’s, but they wouldn’t decoy in the 0 wind conditions. Then a thicker bank of fog moved in, and we started mopping them up. By 9:30, the wind … [Read More]

Feb 5 – Big Push North

Today was amazing. There are so many juvy’s in the flocks this year.  South wind and 50 degrees. The high field shot 148, and the low field was 17. Tomorrow is a repeat of today’s weather – south wind and 60 degrees.  Hopefully, the success is similar. Fields are drying out but still muddy. If … [Read More]

Feb 4 – Youth Duck Hunt

Most, if not all, of the ice, is gone. We spent the off day making the spreads “pretty” again. We are ready to rock and roll tomorrow. The snow geese are starting to move north with the change in the weather.  We have some new weekend dates that opened today, Feb 11-12. Sat is … [Read More]

Feb 2 – Not Much Movement

Cloudy and warmer weather today didn’t push much for birds either north or south. Most of the staged birds have left, there are some, but not in the numbers we had before the ice. I’m hoping tomorrow will change that but for sure this weekend will if the 50 degree south wind forecast holds. … [Read More]

Feb 1 Opening Day

The first day of the 2023 snow goose season was decent, especially given the hunting conditions. The ground is white, and decoys are iced up. Our best group shot 44, and the worst shot 15 for an average of 24 snow geese. A chilly but solid day of snow goose hunting. We saw plenty of … [Read More]

Tomorrow We Kick Off 2023

Round 1 of the ice and sleet is over. Not the worst I’ve seen, but unneeded, regardless. We spent the day wrapping up loose ends. Everything is ready as it can be for tomorrow. All day it was a steady migration of snow geese heading south. The bright side is that we will get … [Read More]

Round #2 On The Way

At least a 1/4″ of ice is covering everything this morning. I’m sure the decoy spreads need work once we get out there. Another ice storm is on the way hitting about 2 pm today. Those driving in, be safe. Those that want to move dates, let me know and I will get you moved. … [Read More]

Icey Start

We might be in for a bit of a weather event to kick off the 2023 Snow Goose Season.  Here is what I sent to our hunters… If you have yet to look at the forecast Tue-Thu morning, there is forecasted freezing rain. The worst of it is supposed to happen Tue and Wed. My … [Read More]

Jan 29

We spent the morning organizing equipment. It was foggy early, but we could hear snow geese pushing north. The temps dropped through the day. In the afternoon, we set two decoy spreads. Tomorrow we will finish setting the last of the spreads.

Jan 28 – We Setting Spreads

We arrived in Arkansas on Friday. The first 3 hours of the Iowa guys were in a blizzard, making for sketchy roads. There are birds around; some areas are holding more than others. Plenty to hunt. There was a south wind yesterday, but nothing was migrating. The first group’s forecast for Feb 1-3 is cool … [Read More]
