Snow Goose Hunting Reports

We are up getting ready to set the last three snow goose spreads…its thundering. A quick check of the forecast and the weather has changed from 1.8 inches of rain to 2-4 inches of snow.

Arkansas has a lot of weather issues. The local new man said this was the coldest winter in 100 year. As with any time the weather is well below normal the snow goose hunting is below normal. Friday was our best day of the year in Arkansas. Total harvest 261 snow geese. It rained a pretty fair amount. Three of the field didn’t do that great but the other 4 fields shot 74, 62, 62, and 37. Today looks to be sunny and warm. It will likely be a good one.

The temps were in the 40’s today and the snow geese rolled out of the south like no other. This afternoon it was flock after flock. We ran two fields one shot 39 and the other with one hunter and the snow goose guide shot 32.

Today is the last of the colder weather. Todays high 32-35 degrees depending on the source. Tomorrow is in the 40’s and the weekend into the 50’s. We are going to set another decoy spread today. Here is the forecast for Jonesboro. They are calling for 3-5 inches of snow on Tuesday. Those hunting Fri-Sun should be ok if this forecast holds true. As if we have not see enough weather this year…this is the view out my motel room door. Unbelievable really. I expect this weather in South Dakota but not in Arkansas.

The weather man has revised the forecast up. Now this weekend is going to be 40 on Sat and 38 on Sunday. For those coming into Mound City it looks like the forecast is going to be warmer…the extended forecast looks good if it holds true.

We have contacted all of the hunter coming in this weekend to snow goose hunt. Some are going to hunt as scheduled and the others are moving their dates. We need some warmer weather to get the ice off our snow goose decoys and blinds. So far Arkansas temps have been 20-30 degrees colder than average … [Read More]

It has started raining now and the temps are well below freezing so I would imagine ice is in our future. Looks like around noon the rain/freezing rain is going to start. We are hoping it doesn’t coat the snow goose decoys too bad.

You will not get any hunting snow goose hunting reports for this weekend because we can’t hunt snow geese. Arkansas has a youth duck hunt the first weekend in February. Monday we start again chasing the snow geese again.
